HbA1c (Diabetes Control) at Agha Khan Lab

HbA1c reflects average blood sugar over roughly the last three months by measuring glycated haemoglobin. It is the main test for diagnosing Type 2 diabetes in adults, adjusting metformin or insulin, and screening high-risk relatives in a country where a large share of diabetes stays undiagnosed until complications appear.

You do not need to fast for HbA1c. Eat and take diabetes medicines as normal unless your clinician orders a fasting panel at the same time. Recent blood transfusion, haemolytic anaemia, or certain haemoglobin variants can skew results—mention these at registration.
